ONE SOURCE is in the heart of New England here in Wallingford, CT and there’s nothing we love to talk about more than the wildly erratic yet beautiful weather. A favorite quote of mine from Mark Twain is “If you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.”

New England weather is predictably unpredictable and really would we want it any other way?

The temperatures will drop and the snow and ice will hit us before we know it! Is your HVAC System ready for fluctuating temperatures? Is the roof in reasonable condition to handle snow and ice? Do you know how snow and ice control will be handled?

Up here in the Northeast you need to be proactive, have a plan in place, and get your buildings ready for anything.

Here are 6 Quick Cold Weather Maintenance Tips for your commercial buildings:

Snow Removal Services – If you don’t have a snow plan in place – make it a priority! Download our sample scope of work here, modify it to your unique needs, and get the work out to bid to a few contractors.

Plumbing – Beware of freezing pipes! Protect your pipes from inclement temperatures by insulating cracks and openings around exposed pipes. Pay mind to interior air temperatures in unused spaces and make sure the temperature stays above 55 degrees.

Roof Condition – Inspect the roof for damaged areas where leaks may occur from heavy snow and ice, clean in and around drain pipes, and clean your gutters if applicable. Excess water on the roof can cause catastrophic damage.

HVAC System – If you have a preventative maintenance contract, make sure they complete the scheduled service. If you don’t have a preventative maintenance contract, get one in place!

Contractor Network – Read our blog post on building your contractor list to make sure you have all the resources you need in case of emergency.

Make an Indoor Project List – Winter is a good time to focus on interior building projects. Read more on a recent LED lighting upgrade we completed that delivered our client about $20,000 in annual savings.
